Emergencies
Whatever the day or time, if you or someone else experiences severe chest
pain, severe loss of blood or suspected broken bones, go to your nearest
Accident & Emergency Department or call 999. Accident and Emergency
Department are open 24 hours a day, 365 days a year and can assess
serious injuries and provide emergency treatment.
If you need a doctor in an emergency out of hours, please ring 276999 and your call will be
diverted to the Out of Hours service. We are members of the North
Staffordshire Urgent Care, composed entirely of GP´s like ourselves. You
may receive advice, be requested to visit the Out of Hours centre in Basford
or receive a home visit from a deputising doctor. Please use this service wisely
and only for conditions that will not wait until the surgery re-opens.
Triage
The nurses run a triage system for emergencies between 08:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m and then again 2.00 and 2.45pm. This is to make sure that you get the best service that is appropriate to your needs. When you ring, a receptionist will take your name and telephone number and the Triage Nurse, who has undergone extra, extensive training to develop the necessary Triage skills, will then ring you back a little later to discuss your problem further. You will then be offered either advice on self-management, an emergency (same day) appointment with the doctor on call, an appointment with the Nurse practitioner, an appointment within 24 or 48 hours or a routine appointment, depending on what is the most appropriate treatment for your illness.
