Consent for Proxy Access to GP Online Services
If you would like someone you trust to help manage your GP online services, you can request proxy access. Please speak to a member of our Reception Team to get started.
What is Proxy Access?
Proxy access allows a trusted person (such as a parent, guardian, family member, or carer) to access and manage another patient’s GP online services on their behalf.
This may include:
Booking appointments
Requesting repeat prescriptions
Viewing medical records and test results
The proxy must have their own registered online services account.
Proxy Access for Children
Birth to 11 years old
A parent or guardian can request full proxy access.
Aged 11 to 15 years
Access is automatically restricted to:
Booking appointments
Requesting repeat prescriptions
Additional access can only be given with the child’s consent.
Aged 16 and over
Proxy access will automatically end when the young person turns 16, unless they are assessed as lacking capacity to manage their own healthcare.
If a young person aged 16+ lacks capacity, a GP will assess and may approve continued proxy access.
Proxy Access for Adults
Patients aged 16 or over can:
Request access to their own online records
Nominate someone they trust to act as a proxy
Having a proxy does not remove the patient’s right to use online services themselves.
Important Information
Proxy access cannot be given to third-party organisations such as insurance companies or solicitors.
Any request where the patient cannot provide consent will be reviewed and authorised by a GP.
