Cancer Screening Tests

Welcome to Your Guide on Cancer Screening

Regular cancer screening is one of the most powerful tools we have to reduce the impact of cancer.

By detecting cancer early—or even preventing it—screening can save lives.

This page provides essential information about breast, bowel (colorectal), and cervical cancer screening—the three national screening programs currently available. Learn who should be tested, when, and why it matters.

🔍 What Is Cancer Screening?

Cancer screening involves testing people without symptoms to detect early signs of cancer or changes that may lead to cancer. The goal is to find cancer early, when it’s easier to treat and more likely to be cured.

If you’re experiencing symptoms that concern you, screening is not the next step—please make an appointment with your GP to discuss your concerns.

💡 Why Screening Matters

  • Detects cancer before symptoms appear

  • Improves survival through early treatment

  • Can prevent cancer by identifying precancerous changes

  • Often free through national programs
