Cold or Flu Symptoms – It’s that time of year
*A cold can last around 2 weeks and can usually be treated at home*
Cold symptoms often come on more steadily and can include symptoms such as;
A blocked or runny nose
A sore throat
Coughs
Although the above symptoms can also be linked to flu, flu will usually come on at a much quicker pace than the normal common cold.
How can you treat a common cold;
Paracetamol and ibuprofen will help to control your temperature and body aches
Decongestion nasal sprays can help relieve a blocked nose
Lots of rest it is important to check or speak to a pharmacist about taking any further medication as these may also contain common painkillers such as paracetamol and ibuprofen.
It is easy to spread common coughs and colds. Always ensure to dispose used tissue, wash your hands regular and use different sponges/towels to the rest of your household.
You can speak to your community pharmacy for reliable advice instead of your GP surgery and you do not need a prescription to access self-care products or over-the-counter medicines.
If your symptoms have not improved within 3-4 weeks please seek medical advice from your GP.
