Maternity Care & Vaccinations During Pregnancy

Welcome to our dedicated maternity care page. If you’ve recently found out you’re pregnant — congratulations! We’re here to support you throughout your pregnancy journey with trusted advice, care, and services.

What to Do When You Find Out You’re Pregnant

As soon as you find out you’re pregnant, you should contact us or a local midwife service — ideally before you’re 8 weeks pregnant. Early care helps ensure the best possible start for both you and your baby.

You can now self-refer directly to maternity services using the NHS Maternity Services Finder:

Confidential Care and Support

Your pregnancy care is confidential, even if you’re under 16. A GP or midwife will talk you through your antenatal care options and help manage any existing health conditions that may be affected by pregnancy.

Emotional Wellbeing in Early Pregnancy

Finding out you’re pregnant can bring a mix of emotions — excitement, worry, confusion, or even fear. Hormonal changes can also impact your mood. If you’re feeling anxious, talking to someone can really help.

Boost Your Baby’s Immunity – Get Vaccinated During Pregnancy

We strongly recommend certain vaccinations during pregnancy to protect both you and your baby from serious illness — especially during the early months of life when babies are most vulnerable.

Vaccines Offered During Pregnancy:

Whooping Cough Vaccine ( 16-32 weeks)
Protects your baby from birth against a potentially life-threatening illness.

Flu Vaccine
Reduces your risk of complications from flu, which can be more severe during pregnancy.

RSV Vaccine (Respiratory Syncytial Virus) (From 28 weeks)
Now available to eligible pregnant women — helps protect babies from serious chest infections.

These vaccines are safe, effective, and available for free through the NHS as part of routine antenatal care.
