If you are aged 75 or over and haven’t had a consultation in the past 12 months—or you would like a general check-up—you can request an annual health check with your GP surgery.
You can book your appointment by contacting reception.
What is the annual over-75 health check?
This yearly consultation is designed to help monitor your health, identify potential issues early, and support you in maintaining your wellbeing and independence.
The check-up is more general than a standard NHS Health Check and may include:
- A review of your overall health, including any concerns you may have
- A discussion about your lifestyle, such as diet, exercise, and alcohol consumption
- A medication review to ensure your prescriptions are still suitable for your needs
- Health screenings, which may include checks for blood pressure, cholesterol, and diabetes
- Information about local services and support that could benefit you
Other important screenings for over-75s
Bowel cancer screening
People aged 60 to 74 are automatically sent a home testing kit. If you are aged 75 or over, you can still take part but will need to request a kit.
To request a kit, call the free bowel screening helpline on 0800 707 6060.
Abdominal Aortic Aneurysm (AAA) screening
Men are usually invited for screening when they turn 65. If you are a man over 75 and have not previously been screened, you can contact your local AAA screening service to request a test.
How to arrange your check-up
To book your annual health check, please contact your GP surgery directly. This can usually be done by calling the practice or speaking with a receptionist.
