Consent for Proxy Access to GP Online Services
If you would like someone else to help you manage your GP services online, you can request proxy access. Please speak to a member of our Reception Team to get started.
What Is Proxy Access?
Proxy access allows a trusted person to access and manage another patient’s GP online services. This includes:
Booking appointments
Requesting repeat prescriptions
Viewing medical records and test results
The proxy must have their own registered online services account.
Proxy Access for Children
Under 12 years old: A parent or guardian can request full proxy access.
Aged 12–15: Access will be limited to booking appointments and repeat prescriptions unless the child gives consent for more.
Age 16 and over: Proxy access will automatically end unless the young person lacks capacity to manage their own healthcare.
If a young person aged 16+ lacks capacity, a GP will assess and approve ongoing proxy access.
Adults and Proxy Access
Patients aged 16 or over can:
Request access to their own records
Nominate someone they trust as a proxy
This does not remove their right to use GP online services themselves.
Important Information
Proxy access is not available to third-party organisations such as insurance companies or solicitors.
All proxy requests involving patients who cannot provide consent will be reviewed by a GP.
